The Rounded Look
No, not harking back to my pre-Diet Fiery Ginger Beer days, but the rounded style we’ve applied to a few of our minisites recently.
Our ‘traditional’ minisites may not be using cutting-edge web technology (FrontPage 2003 to be precise) but they work, they look good (we think) and we can do what WE want on them without fighting with the CMS and post editor.
But a nice “rounded” look has breathed a bit of new life into them – with minor tweaks they’ve been like this since 2004, after all – as shown here with the Hong Kong sites from last year and this …
Of course, if you’re using good old Internet Explorer you’ll see this year’s site in its Square incarnation. That’s because while the alternative browsers – primarily Chrome, Firefox, Safari – all use the same rendering engine and are ‘standards compliant’, IE needs a lot more code to produce the rounded effect, and given that IE users now account for just under 30% of SquashSite traffic, we basically couldn’t be bothered!
The rounded style offers a few options for presenting draws differently too, again as demonstrated on Hong Kong – expect more variations on that.
Here’s a couple more examples of sites we’ve ’roundified’, and a couple that will probably be getting the treatment soon …
What do you think – rounded, or not ???

‘Rounded’ looks definitely much better than only square boxes!
